Agartala, Jan 22: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday highlighted the state’s significant strides in development, noting that Tripura ranks second among northeastern states in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP). Addressing the 53rd Statehood Day function on January 21, he expressed optimism about the northeast’s growing contribution to India’s GDP in the coming years.
“A new chapter of all-round development has begun in Tripura,” Saha said, crediting the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the state’s progress.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the Central government’s swift assistance during last year’s devastating floods. “Despite massive losses across sectors, with additional NDRF teams, helicopters, and resources from the Centre, we overcame the crisis,” he stated.
Saha emphasized the importance of maintaining peace for development, citing its role in boosting tourism. “Tourist inflow has increased, and we’ve developed more tourist spots, enhancing the state’s appeal,” he added.
Highlighting achievements, Saha said Tripura advanced from being a performer in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to a front-runner state in 2023-24. He also detailed the state’s fiscal health, noting a budget allocation of ₹28,000 crore, with a surplus of ₹10,000 crore after expenditures.
He outlined key allocations, including 25% for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council and 10% for Urban Local Bodies, underscoring Tripura’s commitment to inclusive growth.
