Tripura: Section144 of CrPC was promulgated parts of Agartala after a row over the temple in a burial ground

Agartala, Jul 6: Section 144 of CrPC was promulgated in parts of Tripura’s capital Agartala on Tuesday until further order after a row erupted when a group of people from the minority community on Tuesday alleged that a Shiv temple was erected at a burial ground at Palpara, close to Nandannagar Thanda Kalibari area, a few kilometers away from Agartala.

Hundreds of people including large number of women from the Muslim community blocked the bypass road connecting GB hospital and Khayerpur in protest against the alleged capture of their graveyard (kabarstan) close to Thanda Kalibari in Nandannagar, Agartala where on Monday night a Shiv temple was created overnight by Hindu Yuva Bahani.

The protestors demanded for immediate clearing of the temple by the state authority and return back their graveyard land.

The protestor said that since long there is burial ground in that area and said apprehending such problems by a section who are trying to disturb the harmony between the Muslims and Hindus who have been living peacefully for decades in 2019 they had written to the SDM followed by to the Minority Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath for taking immediate steps toward demarcation of the burial land so that they can raise boundary and to avoid any dispute in future but there has been no positivity role from the authority.

He also shows the relevant documents and letters those were submitted at various times to the state administration and Minister.

Subdivisional Magistrate Ashim Saha has promulgate prohibitory orders to maintain law and order at Nandanagar near the Thanda Kalibari where prevalence high tension apprehending breach of peace to maintain public tranquility.

The order has restricted on no assembly of five or more persons within 200 meter in that area.

This is the third incident of such type in an around Agartala in last 4.5 years time.

The first incident occurred in bordering south Joynagar where alleged a part of the existing Kabarstan was captured and a Shiv temple was setup.

The second incident took place in south Ramnagar where allegedly minority people where refused to bury bodies in a graveyard.

Police maintained status quo in both incidents and removed the illegal occupant.
