Agartala, Dec 19: Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Tuesday criticised the Janajati Suraksha Mancha (JSM), a Hindutva affiliate body, that has called for a rally on Christmas Day this year demanding to delist converted tribals from ST status and said efforts are being made to incite Manipur-like conflict in Tripura over religious lines.
Pradyot’s appeal comes in the midst of comments from Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha that he didn’t have any comments on the JSM rally. While his comments drew flak from opposition political parties, Leader of the Opposition Animesh Debbarma on Tuesday raised fingers at the CM’s stand saying, “He is the CM and the Home minister of the state. How can he not have comments on it? He should make his stand clear.”
Meanwhile, in an audio message to his supporters, Pradyot Kishore said, “I have seen some people are trying to make Tiprasa fight with Tiprasa on December 25 in the name of religion, just like brothers killed brothers in Manipur… they want us to be angry, discontented and they want our tension and stress to go up. When we become angry, we might take some wrong step. I don’t want you to take any such step”.
He appealed to the tribals of the state to keep their themselves calm by maintaining patience and said if tribals keep their heads cool, any effort to divide them on communal lines would fail.
“If we keep our head cool, their plan will be failed, they will be unsuccessful… they will be defeated with peace. You know which side you have to choose. This is Bubagra sending the message of peace and love during the month of December,” he said.
