Agartala, Dec 16: In a major crackdown, two militant leaders, including one of them trained by the ISI of Pakistan, of the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura were arrested on Thursday night.
The arrested leaders have been identified as Sachin Debbarma and Uppal Debbarma.
According to police, they were arrested on Thursday night at Simna in Western Tripura, immediately after the duo entered the state from Bangladesh through a clandestine route.
It has been learned that Sachin was in Pakistan, and he was trained by the Inter-Services Intelligence of Pakistan before moving to Bangladesh.
Police said a local court in Khowai district and another court in Agartala sent the militant leaders—Sachin Debbarma and Uppal Debbarma—for five and seven days of jail custody, respectively.
“From Bangladesh, they were involved in terror plots in Tripura for several years, but they were arrested by the Bangladesh police several years ago,” said a police official.
