Agartala, Nov 8: A video has gone viral on social media platforms wherein a person who went to ask for his pending salary was assaulted by the shop owner in Agartala.
Surajit Tripura, who is believed to be the victim, is a resident of Abhoynagar in Agartala. He filed a case on November 7, 2022 with the officer in-charge of West Agartala Police station against his employer, who is known as Apu Saha and is the owner of ‘Mufti’ clothing showroom.

The FIR states, “….Since 2 to 3 months I was working in Mufti Showroom, Bidurkarta Chowmuhani in Agartala under owner Apu Saha. Today the incident took place at around 4:30 AM. I went there for asking my salary but they brutally assaulted me. Apu Saha along with one staff Sagar Das. They both slapped me and trying to attack me with rod. I request you to kindly look after this incident as soon as possible as this is turning out to be a matter of a serious concern”.
The Bharatiya Janata Janajati Morcha (BJJM), which is the tribal wing of the ruling BJP, has strongly condemned the unfortunate incident.
Devid Debbarma, general secretary of the party, in a press release, said that taking a cue from the incident, the vested interest group has hurriedly engaged in rumour-mongering and indulging on communal lines to fish in troubled water.
“We reiterate that the incident was a simple criminal act by the shopkeeper against his employee who had simply asked for payment of his due salary. While investigating the incident, it appears that the youth identified as Surajit Tripura hails from the Longtarai Valley Sub-division in Dhalai district working in the showroom for quite a few months now. Recently, he took leave for two days for Tripura Public Service Commission exam with due intimation. On Monday, he was called by the shop owner Apu Saha when he had requested for disbursement of his salary dues. Upon arrival, Apu Saha and another employee Sagar Deb allegedly compelled him to disrobe and tortured him inside the shop”, the press release reads.

Devid further added that the shop owner has also threatened Surajit with severe consequences, to show power as he allegedly has political power and connections with police officers on duty which could worsen one’s situation in the matter.
“They also threatened him that if he divulges the incident, he wouldn’t get any job anywhere and he and his family will suffer. After getting released from the clutches of Apu Saha, Surajit lodged a complaint with police on Monday night,” he said.
Devid has demanded proper investigation into the case and asked police to book the accused persons immediately under appropriate law.
