Agartala, July 10: In a tragic incident, a person was trampled to death by wild elephants in Tripura’s Khowai district on Sunday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Sujit Barman (45), a resident of Telianura Shantinagar.
According to reports, Sujit was riding his motorcycle to Malakar Basti for personal reasons when he encountered a herd of wild elephants blocking his path. The elephants attacked him, resulting in his untimely demise.
The forest personnel and staff of fire fighters department swiftly arrived at the scene, rescuing the victim and rushing him to Teliamura sub-divisional hospital.
Bikash Debbarma, the Tribal Welfare Minister of Tripura, visited the hospital to meet the victim’s family members.
On May 10, Bihari Karmakar lost his life in a similar incident at Bhumihin Colony.
Local residents said wild elephants descending from the Baramura hill range have been causing destruction to properties and crops due to food scarcity caused by human activities in the forested areas.
