Nongpoh, March 20: A truck driver sustained severe injuries in a collision with a stationary truck along National Highway 6 near the Ram Mandir in Nongpoh on Monday night.
The injured driver, identified as Rajendra Das (28), was driving a Meghalaya-registered truck (ML 05Z 9460) when it hit the rear of a stationary Nagaland-registered truck (NL 01G 6729).
According to Das, he fell drowsy while driving to Shillong and failed to notice the stationary truck ahead, which had stopped due to a damaged tyre.
The collision resulted in Das sustaining a broken leg, trapping him within the cabin of his significantly damaged vehicle.
Ri Bhoi police with the help of locals were able to extricated Das from the wreckage and rushed him to Nongpoh Civil Hospital for urgent medical attention.
