Tura, June 14: The Tura Civil Hospital celebrated World Blood Donors Day on Friday with a special event to recognize and honor the selfless contributions of blood donors.
The program was organized by the Blood Centre of the Tura Civil Hospital in collaboration with the State Blood Transfusion Council and the State Blood Cell of the National Health Mission, West Garo Hills district.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills Jagdish Chelani, expressed his gratitude to the donors and also highlighted the importance of Blood donation and encouraged more people to become donors to save the lives of the people. Mentioning about the effort of the government to improve and provide medical care to the people, he said that sustainable medical facilities are necessary to cater to the needs of the people of the region.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Tura Civil Hospital, Dr. I C Marak, in his keynote address, informed that this year’s theme is especially to thank and honor the donors who had been donating their blood selflessly to save precious lives. Further, mentioning about the advancement of science in blood transfusion, he said that the unit will soon be upgraded with advanced technology and provide better facilities to the people.
The Chief Guest and other Guest present felicitated the blood donors. 200 Bn BSF Danakgre, 1st Bn, BSF Danakgre, and HDFC Bank Tura were among others felicitated during the program.
The District Medical and Health Officer, West Garo Hills, Dr. Jakrambal A Sangma, Incharge Blood Centre, Tura Civil Hospital, Dr. T G Momin, and Dr. Zeany T Ch Momin were among others who spoke on the occasion.
