Tura, April 21: Following the passing of Pope Francis on Monday morning, the Diocese of Tura has officially entered a period of nine days of mourning, in accordance with the directives of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) and the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI).
In a message issued by Auxiliary Bishop Jose Chirackal, the faithful including priests, religious, and lay members, have been called to observe this solemn period through special Masses and prayers in all Catholic institutions and parishes across the diocese for the repose of the soul of the late Holy Father.

A special requiem Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Shrine in Tura at 5:30 p.m. on April 24. All members of the diocese have been urged to attend and join in prayerful remembrance.
Bishop Chirackal also clarified that there will be no holiday on Tuesday (April 22) for Catholic educational institutions. A holiday may be observed on the day of the Pope’s funeral, once the date is officially announced.
“As we thank God for the papacy of Pope Francis and mourn his death, let us also resolve to cherish his good memory, follow his teachings, and emulate his good example especially of promoting universal brotherhood and peace and care for the nature and the less privileged in the society,” the Auxiliary Bishop said.
He concluded the message with a prayer: “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.”
