Tura, April 28: Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills Dr. Dara Aswagosh provided detailed information regarding an accident that occurred in Tura on Sunday morning.
The incident involved a collision between a dumper truck and a motorbike, resulted in serious injuries to the motorcyclist, identified as 37-year-old Rakseng M Sangma from Balachanda, Rajabala.
According to Dr Aswagosh, the disturbing incident occurred when a truck driver identified as Kazimudin from Singimari, dragged victim’s bike under the truck for about 2 kilometers until reaching a quarry or stockyard located at Bokmagre. The driver abandoned the truck and fled into the nearby jungle, leaving the victim in critical condition.
“The victim sustained severe injuries and is undergoing treatment at Tura Civil Hospital,” stated Dr Aswagosh.
Amidst concerns over the alarming frequency of accidents involving dumper trucks in Tura, Dr Aswagosh asserted that stringent measures have been implemented within the police force. “Strict instructions have been issued to all Officers In-charge, I/Cs and field units to intensify checks to curb speeding and reckless driving”.
To proactively address road safety issues, the police department intends to collaborate with the dumper truck association and other stakeholders to conduct a comprehensive traffic awareness campaign in Tura.
Dr Aswagosh also highlighted forthcoming discussions with local authorities and the Public Works Department to enhance road safety infrastructure.
Regarding victim’s condition, Dr Aswagosh said that the doctors are closely monitoring his injuries. Recent reports indicate the possibility of amputation due to the severity of the leg injury.
