Tura Football League 2024: Rongkhon Sporting crowned champions of First Division

Tura, July 17: The much-awaited final of the First Division of the Tura Football League 2024 concluded on a spectacular note at the Chandmary Football Turf in Tura on Tuesday, with Rongkhon Sporting lifting the coveted trophy.

The First Division final saw a thrilling match between Rongkhon Sporting and Chandmary FC, as both the sides were evenly matched.

Chandmary FC drew first blood with Songanan Shaiza finding the back of the net in the 25th minute, to which Rongkhon Sporting responded with a goal by Kevisuzo Chalieu in the 39th minute mark, ending the first half in a 1-1 deadlock.

As the second half ensued, Dimsrang Ch Sangma added to Chandmary FC’s scoring with a goal in the 55th minute. Rongkhon Sporting soon redeemed themselves adding a lead as Beny Sangma and Kevisuzo Chalieu found the back of the net in the 72nd and 77th minute, respectively.

Chandmary FC launched multiple attacks to equalize but fell short at converting their chances. With the final whistle, Rongkhon Sporting triumphed with a 3-2 victory against Chandmary FC.

Adam A Sangma and Treningbirth M Sangma of Chandmary FC received the cautionary yellow card in the 38th and 75th minute, respectively. Fredrick Sangma of Rongkhon Sporting received his cautionary yellow card in the 53rd minute of the match.

Following the win, Rongkhon Sporting were awarded the prize money of Rs. 1 lakh, while Chandmary FC received the runner’s up trophy along with the prize money of Rs. 70,000.

Individual awards were also distributed to players for their outstanding performances:
Player of the Final – Kevisuzo Chalieu of Rongkhon Sporting,
Best Goalkeeper – Rakim Arengh of Rongkhon Sporting,
Best Defender – Beny Sangma of Rongkhon Sporting,
Best Midfielder – Chugam Sangma of Chandmary FC,
Best Forward – Andrew Sangma of Rongkhon Sporting,
Top Scorer award – Tenggrik R Marak of A.Balmikka (8 goals).

Player of the Final received a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 1500, whereas the rest of the individual awardees received a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 3,000 each.

Gracing the occasion were J. P. Marak, Retd. Deputy Director, Department of Sports & Youth Affairs and former President of DFA along with Rupankar Marak, DFO, East and West Garo Hills; Gino Sangma, Assistant Professor, NEHU and former General Secretary, DFA; Mongera M Marak, DSO, incharge Baghmara; Rexwell Marak, General Secretary, Williamnagar District Sports Association; Tyson Shira, Williamnagar District Sports Association, Member and Churikcheng G Momin, Member, Resubelpara Sports Association, who distributed prizes to the winners.
