Tura, Sept 14: The 20 year old girl who is alleged to have been hit on the head with a beer bottle by three police personnel on Wednesday night has denied making that claim.
The girl was identified by police and taken to hospital on Thursday for a medical check up and her statement was also recorded by women police.
“She was part of a large group of boys and girls who were engaged in partying on the road between Tura municipal dumping site and the Tura cemetery on Wednesday night. But she has not mentioned how she sustained the injury,” says West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police Abraham T Sangma.
“She has denied putting up a claim that police personnel assaulted her and says she only put up her injury photo on her status without any statement. We suspect others who saw the status may have picked it up and blamed police,” says the SP.
He said that an enquiry by a DSP has been ordered to find out the truth about the incident and to also identify those behind this viral social media post.
The girl is also said to be giving improper statements during questioning.
“She was part of the group that was engaged in loud music and partying on Wednesday night,” confirms police.
Araimile police says they received a complaint from the locality and a team was dispatched to the municipal dumpsite- cemetery road around 11 in the night. They found a sizable crowd of young boys and girls drinking in the open and playing loud music. The group was dispersed from the area by the police team.
