Tura, Aug 31: As part of the National Sports Day celebration, the District Sports Officer, West Garo Hills organised a 10k Run at the Matchakolgre L. P. School field on Saturday, which saw participation of over 500 runners from all ages.
The run featured two age categories: above 15 years (men and women) and under 15 years (boys and girls).
The race began at 6:00 AM from the Matchakolgre L. P. School field. The route passed the MBOSE office and returned from the Bolchugre petrol pump, culminating hack at the Matchakolgre field.
Winners in the Under-15 Boys category:
1. John Omega Ch Sangma
2. Rhayastone Ch Marak
3. Elyan Ernest S Sangma
Consolation prizes: Akrano S Sangma, Challang D Arengh, Chusrang Ch Sangma and Nirkan A Sangma.
Winners in the Under-15 Girls category:
1. Akangesa D Sangma
2. Sneha D Sangma
3. Chukambe G Momin
Consolation prizes: Menakshi D Sangma, Ebara D Sangma, Losame A Sangma and Amachisa B Marak.
Winners in the Above 15 Male category:
1. Nirest R Marak
2. Macmillan D Marak
3.Bethnar A Sangma
Consolation prizes: Bhismadev Hajong, Sengwat A Sangma, Tuebirth Ch Sangma and Bowash K Sangma.
Winners in the Above 15 Female category:
1. Dimchi Ch Marak
2. Tengsilchi B Marak
3. Renytha M Sangma
Consolation prizes: Gunchira D Shira, Fatima Ch Marak, Salse G Momin and Maima Dolly M Sangma.
The prize for oldest runner went to Malasing M Marak (49yrs) and the prize for the youngest runner went to Adielo R Marak (6yrs).
Freddy Sangma, AEE, PWD, Garobadha graced the event and distributed the medals and prize amount of Rs. 5000, Rs. 3000, Rs. 2000 to the first, second and third place winners respectively, and Rs. 1000 was awarded to the consolation prize winners.
