Tura launches Polio Booth for Sub National Immunization

Tura, Dec 9: With the objective of promoting polio immunization and also to raise awareness about its importance in preventing the disease, the state level inauguration of the Polio Booth for Sub National Immunization Day (SNID) was held on Monday at the Matchakolgre Community Hall in Tura.

Organised by District Health Society, West Garo Hills, (UPHC) Urban Primary Health Centre, the event was presence of Rev. Jose Chirackal, Auxiliary Bishop, Tura, West Garo Hills; Jagdish Chelani, Deputy Commissioner, Tura; Sr. Dr. Ivonne M Sangna, District Maternal and Child Health Officer and other medical officers, super-visors units of Government of Meghalaya District Health Society, West Garo Hills.

Speaking at the event, Rev. Jose Chirackal urged everyone to participate, especially the parents to do routine immunization for their kids under the age of 5 years, requesting every parent and guardian with children under 5 years of age to get the two drops of polio as it is a very important vaccination that will help to build a better future for the kids.

The inauguration of Polio Booth was done by the Rev. Jose Chirackal and Jagdish Chelani, Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, where they also administered polio drops to some of the children.

Additionally, the department will also carry out door to door activities in order to ensure no child is left out.
