TURA, July 22: The scale of the violence in Manipur and attacks on women, witnessed from a leaked video that targeted women, which has shaken the conscience of India has also shocked the people of Garo Hills.

Mothers of Tura congregated at the Chandmari football stadium on Saturday afternoon to highlight the attacks and the need for peace.

Led by the Mothers Union of Tura, they expressed dismay by the way attacks on women have been made a tool in the ongoing ethnic conflict and called for urgent restoration of peace.

They offered prayers for the victims of the violence, especially women who have been the most vulnerable in this conflict.

“We pray for those who have been the targets of the violence, the families who could not save their homes from being burnt down by mobs, who tried to protect their daughters and sisters and lost their lives in the brutal killings. We pray for peace and forgiveness from our heavenly father,” prayed the mothers as people from different corners of Tura assembled at the venue where an inter-clan or mahari football tournament has been underway since the past one week.

Citizens of Garo Hills have been shaken by the attacks on women, especially after witnessing the video of innocent women being paraded naked and being taken to be raped by hordes of Meitei men that attacked their Kuki village in the Imphal valley.
