Tura schools bring fame to Garo Hills in SSLC results

Must read

Tura, May 24: Sherwood School of Tura – always known for its remarkable results in successive years of SSLC exams was never a stranger in the toppers list.

Having been nurtured for well over 30 long years by its famous headmaster, anglo-Indian Tyrone D’Brass – a Loyola school product who did his teachers training from Mount Hermon in Darjeeling, the school baton was passed on to the new generation of leaders, less than three years ago.

Today’s results have as many as three state toppers from Sherwood in the SSLC exams- Anuj Chetry in 1st position, Ayumi M Momin in 6th position and Arunav Kumar Paul in the 19th rank of the state’s top Twenty list.

Coincidentally, Tanisha Das of Don Bosco college who secured the state’s 2nd position in today’s Class XII HSSLC Arts results was also a product of Sherwood who made it to the 2022 SSLC top ten list of the state.

But, Sherwood is not the only institution from Garo Hills that is making waves in the education scenario of the state.

St. Xavier’s Higher Secondary School in Tura, along with St. Thomas Higher Secondary School of Mendipathar, Aeroville Higher Secondary School, Tura, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and Christian Girls Higher Secondary School- the oldest missionary boarding school for girls established close to a century ago, have done Garo Hills proud in this year’s Class X SSLC results.

St. Xaviers, which is the oldest catholic missionary school for girls, has been making it to the state list several times, including last year when Salrime made it to the top list.

This time, Aime Azora G Momin of St. Xaviers and Wanma Sangma of St. Thomas jointly shared the state’s 4th position, Obadiah Namaan B Sangma of Aeroville took the 9th position, Dechro M Marak of Don Bosco HS School jointly shared the 11th position , Eva Amareen A Sangma of Aeroville jointly in 14th rank, and Lillian Christiano B Marak of Christian Girls taking the 20th position in the state.

While Sherwood and Aeroville have a history of toppers, It is interesting to note that other lesser known schools have also begun to compete for the crown in education- the SSLC and HSSLC, one example being this year’s topper schools such as St. Thomas of Mendipathar and Don Bosco HS School of Tura.

Clearly, Tura, in the face of multiple challenges and limited resources, is fast becoming a serious education hub that can give a run to other prestigious institutions residing in the state capital.
