Tura, July 6: A Cleaning and Plantation drive was conducted by the Tura Municipal Board (TMB) under the Swach Bharat Mission 2.0 at the Araimile junction in Tura on Saturday.
In collaboration with Federation of Khasi Jantia Garo People (FKJGP), Association of Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) and A’chik A’song Environment Enthusiast Society (AAEES), the drive sought to impart consciousness among the locals towards maintaining cleanliness.
The program commenced early in the morning at 8 AM, with more than 60 people including the TMB field workers and members of the pressure groups equipped with gloves, trash bags, and gardening tools, converging at Araimile. The participants diligently picked up litter strewn across the area, ensuring every nook and corner was thoroughly cleaned.
The drive particularly focused on collecting plastic waste, which possess a severe threat to the local ecosystem, and also engaged in a plantation drive to enhance the green cover of the locality.
Looking forward, the Tura Municipal Board plans to replicate similar initiatives across other key areas of Tura, aiming to expand their impact and encourage greater community participation in environmental conservation efforts.
