Tura, August 11: The spirited Bilgaro 2W (Bike) Rally roared to life on Friday morning. The adrenaline-fueled event witnessed the participation of 18 enthusiastic riders, including biking aficionados from Assam, Khasi Hills, and Garo Hills.
The rally was flagged-off by the Executive Member (EM) of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Grahambell A Sangma, at Cafe Aldara in Rongkon, Tura.
The rally’s first leg began from Rongkon and navigated its way to the Adinggre region within the Jengjal Area. The riders then embarked on the first Super Stage (SS) of the event, aptly named SS. This challenging segment led the participants through a rollercoaster of uphill and downhill sections, traversing slushy terrains that tested their skills and mettle.
Acknowledging the daunting nature of the course, one rider told Hub News: “It is one of the most demanding terrains I have ever encountered.” The trail’s water crossings added another layer of complexity, with participants recounting their feats of crossing waterways without succumbing to the depths. “The water level was high But I could luckily cross without falling,” said another rider.
The element of surprise loomed large, as organizers had strategically withheld the route map until the scrutiny day, leaving no room for pre-race reconnaissance. As a result, riders had to rely solely on the provided maps to chart their courses.
Unfortunately, the day’s exhilaration was not without its setbacks. Several participants faced injuries due to the treacherous terrain. One resilient rider shared, “I tumbled around 6-7 times; the route was formidable, yet it provided an exhilarating experience.”
Day 1 also witnessed some unfortunate incidents, with a biker from Assam requiring hospitalization due to gastritis, attributed to the absence of sustenance since morning. Additionally, two others sustained minor leg injuries.
The anticipation for Day 2 remains high, with organizers hinting at another set of challenges that lie in wait. The event coordinators disclosed to Hub News that the second day’s terrain features two river crossings, coupled with slushy and uphill sections that promise to further test the riders’ mettle.
As the first day concluded, the number of participants for Day 2 has slightly dwindled to approximately 15, owing to a variety of reasons, including the “Did Not Finish” (DNF) designation for some participants who faced formidable challenges.
This is the 3rd Edition of Bilgaro 2W (Bike Rally) taking place in Garo Hills. The event has been organized by the Tura Motor Sports Club (TMSC), which spans over two days and covers a total distance of 220 kilometers.
