Tura, Nov 6: Sherwood School in Tura was alive with cheers, colours and energy on Wednesday as it celebrated the grand finale of its annual sports day on school grounds.
Students, school faculty members and parents gathered for a day packed with athletic competitions, drills and displays.
Jasper P. Marak, Retired State Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, graced the event as the chief guest, accompanied by other school dignitaries.
Speaking to our reporter, school headmistress Tasha A. B. Sawkmie shared the journey behind this year’s event, informing that the annual sports event is a month long celebration, with heats held every day for one month, and the final event culminating on Wednesday.
The final day lineup included: 90-meter race, 200-meter race, 400-meter race and relay events.
According to Sawkmie, the true highlight was the drill display, as the junior students performed the ribbon drill, while middle-section students performed a colorful pom-pom routine and the senior students danced to the scarf drill.
She also informed that about 700 students participated in the final day.
“It’s a team effort,” Sawkmie remarked. “Our teachers, staff, and students have all contributed so much to make this day a success,” she said.
She also noted that the sports day is a rare occasion where parents are welcomed onto the school grounds, allowing them to share the excitement with their children.
