Aizawl, May 4: Two U.S. nationals were deported from Mizoram via Lengpui Airport on Saturday for failing to produce the mandatory Protected Area Permit (PAP), officials confirmed.
The individuals, identified as Walter Frederick Kuh and Sharon Clodfelter Kuhn, arrived at Lengpui Airport earlier this month without the required PAP. Airport authorities detained them upon arrival and later deported them on an IndiGo flight to New Delhi.
Sources revealed that the PAP requirement for foreign nationals entering Mizoram was reinstated on December 17, 2024, after remaining inactive for 14 years. Since its reintroduction, notices have been issued to foreign embassies, and airlines operating flights to Lengpui have been instructed to inform international passengers about the permit requirement before departure.

Previously, foreigners could enter Mizoram with a valid visa and were required to report to the Special Branch of the Crime Investigation Department within 24 hours of arrival.
It is also worth noting that all Indian citizens who are not permanent residents of Mizoram must obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter the state. The ILP can be issued at the airport upon arrival for an initial period of seven days, extendable with proper sponsorship.
