Shillong, April 3: Following questions raised by the Khasi Students Union (KSU) members regarding the arrest of their colleagues, SP Rituraj Ravi stated that the arrests in connection with the Ichamati twin murder case were made based on strong leads and evidence.
“Since the day of the incident, our investigation has been ongoing, focusing on leads, witnesses, and collected evidence. We have made progress based on the evidence and scientific data gathered, as well as the relevant facts of the case,” said East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Rituraj Ravi.
He continued, “During the investigation, the leads we received and the strong evidence gathered led to the arrests.”
It maybe be noted, that two KSU members from South Khasi Hills were arrested on Monday night and were granted 7 days of police custody by the District and Session Court, East Khasi Hills.
On Wednesday, KSU members, along with people from various parts of the Sohra Subdivision, organized a protest march to the Sohra police station to seek clarification regarding the arrest of the two KSU members from Sohra.
In response to the protest in Sohra, SP Rituraj Ravi informed that close to 300 KSU members participated in a rally and gathered in front of the Sohra Police station.
He stated that they protested seeking an explanation for the arrest of the members on April 1, who are suspected to be involved in the Ichamati killing.
He further informed that they gathered for some time and later dispersed peacefully.
Urging citizens to abide by the law, the SP emphasized that the arrests and inquiry are being conducted according to protocol.
