Shillong, April 6: Local MLA from Pynthorumkhrah and cabinet minister AL Hek on Monday informed that the Police Department have picked up a few people in connection with the assault case in Golf link on March 21.
AL Hek while talking to Newsmen said that the Government is not sitting idle and are doing everything and nobody can take law into their own hands Hek was reacting to a comment made by pressure groups recently who said that if the Government does not do anything then they will take the matter into their own hands.
Hek also informed that the Police department was holding regular meetings to discuss about the incident and he was hopeful that the perpetrators responsible will soon be nabbed.
Hek urged the citizens to remain patient and not take law into their own hands and have faith in the investigation process. He further added that the Dorbar Shnong or community administration and women’s organisation or Seng Kynthei are working tirelessly to ensure such incidents don’t happen. He also reminded that an SIT was already constituted to investigate into the matter and the police have picked up a few people for questioning and enquiry into the matter was on, said Hek
Reacting to a query if he will take up the matter of the Assam-Meghalaya border on the party level and discuss in the party meetings senior BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek said that since the Assam Assembly elections are underway, he would take up the issue on a political level as he was certain that the BJP will win in Assam and he along with the Chief Minister of the state and the State BJP will push and try their best to expedite the process.
It may be mentioned that Assam and Meghalaya have at least 12 areas where there are boundary disputes among themselves and both states have adopted a policy in which one state cannot carry out developmental activities without informing the other.
It may also be mentioned that Chief ministers of both Assam and Meghalaya have met in the past as also their chief secretaries and consultations were held by the district administrators concerned and the police forces of the two states to resolve the problem.
