Guwahati, April 21: The nomination papers of two time sitting MP from Kokrajhar Lok Sabha Constituency Naba Kumar Sarania has been rejected during scrutiny by Returning Officer Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi.
He had filed his nomination from Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat as an independent candidate. Sarania was two time sitting MP from Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat.
Sarania had filed his nomination from Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency on Friday a day after the Gauhati High Court upheld an order dismissing his status as a Scheduled Tribe (Plains).
According to Returning Officer Dwivedi total of 16 candidates had filed nomination papers and last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 22.
He stated that the “contesting list of the candidates will be prepared and we are prepared to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner. We will strictly monitor the the use money and muscle power during the elections,”.
Dwivedi urged all candidates and parties to keep a strict vigil for any violation of MCC and informed the administration.
Naba Kumar Sarania reacted on the rejection of the nomination filed he said, that ” nomination has been cancelled but two of our candidates are still in the fray and we will fight the elections. The political parties have hatched conspiracy against us but we will stand firm in our decission, we will fight and win the Kokrajhar seat”.
Kokrajhar is one of two parliamentary constituencies in Assam reserved for Scheduled Tribes with the other being Diphu.
