U-15 Inter District Cricket: East Jaintia Hills rescued by bad weather

Shillong, March 20: East Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association were in a real spot of bother against West Jaintia Hills District Cricket Association but bad weather only allowed for 26.1 overs on the first day of their U-15 Inter District Cricket Tournament 2023 Zone 1 match in Umbuda, Ri-Bhoi, on Monday.

Put into bat after losing the toss, EJH were skittled for just 20 in their first innings and WJH were on 12/1 after 6 overs when the day’s proceedings were brought to an early end. EJH’s batters were never allowed to settle, with Stevenson M Sten (4/5), Maremdorkini Sutnga (3/2) and Neheimaia Gatphoh (2/1) taking the wickets for WJH.

Meanwhile, in Zone 2, West Khasi Hills District Cricket Association won the toss and chose to field first against South Garo Hills District Cricket Association.

SGH made a respectable 184 all out in 57.5 overs and WKH were 10/0 in the one over they faced before stumps.

The top five in SGH’s batting line-up all got starts but no one could push on and the team were left hanging on 116/9 when No. 11 Brilliance S Marak joined No. 10 Jibon N Marak at the crease.

The pair put on an impressive 68 runs for the final wicket, with Brilliance living up to his name by top-scoring with an unbeaten 38, while Jibon was finally out for 33. Ultimately, nine bowlers were used by WKH, with Dabetbhalang Kharjana (3/22) and Jemmillson Marngar (3/23) the most successful.
