Shillong, Jan 24: Minister in-charge of Arts and Culture, Paul Lyngdoh informed on Wednesday that the lifesize statue and bust of the legendary Khasi freedom fighter, U Tirot Sing Syiem, are set to be unveiled in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on February 16.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh revealed that the Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Urban Affairs, Sniawbhalang Dhar, will lead a high-level government delegation for the unveiling ceremony in Dhaka.
Lyngdoh, accompanying Dhar, stated, “I will also accompany him as the program has been at the behest of the Department of Arts and Culture, and we will give details of the program as we approach February 16.”
He further informed that the state government has been in discussions with the Indian High Commission of Bangladesh regarding this event.
The lifesize statue and bust of U Tirot Sing Syiem have been designed by sculptor Raphael Warjri, with approval from the Arts and Culture department.
