Shillong, June 23: National People’s Party (NPP) national vice president and deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance-2 government is intact and will complete the full five years term.
“The current dispensation as far as the state government is concerned, we are all intact and we are all committed, we will complete the whole term of 2023 up to 2028. They (UDP) are our closest friends so we will continue and we will sail together,” Tynsong told reporters.
His statement came after the NPP toppled the UDP-led EC in the KHADC with the support of the Congress.
Tynsong also refused to comment on the Congress’ offer to support the NPP-led MDA government without the BJP and maintained, “See the present dispensation, the present arrangement made by the MDA-2 will continue till the end of the term.”
On the UDP’s allegation against him, the deputy chief minister said how the UDP can blame him for toppling of the EC when he is not even a nominated member of the council.
“See I am not even a nominated member of the district council, not even a nominated member, so how can UDP blame me that I am the one who toppled the previous EC so please ask from them how could it be Prestone toppled the EC since I am not even a nominated member of the KHADC,” he added.
Recently, former KHADC chief Titosstarwell Chyne had alleged that one of the conditions put forth by the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) legislators – Gavin M Mylliem (Sohra) and Banteidor Lyngdoh (Mawkynrew) – while merging with the NPP was to oust him as CEM because he was a threat to their future.
Reacting to this, Tynsong said, “See out of frustration, out of discontentment, any leader when they reach this situation sometimes they tend to talk like this, blaming others means that he does not accept that maybe the mistake starts from him. So it always happen you know like a person who lost election, they will not blame I lost election because of my mistake, they will say they spend money…and because he has done this, done that – so that is always the system that we have here.
Asked if the nominated MDC will also be changed, the deputy chief minister however said, “Don’t ask from me because again the initiative has to be taken by the EC of the KHADC. So as of now nothing of that kind of proposal has been sent to the government or to me so I cannot say anything on that.”
The post of nominated MDC is presently being held by UDP chief adviser Bindo M Lanong, who is also former deputy chief minister of the state.
