Uma Chetry becomes first player from Assam to be selected in Indian Senior national cricket team

Guwahati, July 3: Wicket-keeper batter Uma Chetry has become the first player from Assam to be selected for the Indian Senior national cricket team.

The announcement came as she was named in the squad for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh, where India will compete in both T20 and ODI matches.

The team will be led by the experienced Harmanpreet Kaur, and they are scheduled to play three T20s and an equal number of ODIs.

Chetry recently featured in the India A team that emerged victorious in the Asia Emerging Cricket Tournament held in Hong Kong.

Hailing from Bokakhat in Assam, Uma Chetry is a talented wicket-keeper batter who has been making waves with her performances.

In limited opportunities she got, Uma displayed her skills both with the bat and behind the stumps, playing a crucial role in the team’s success.

“We are happy for our daughter. We came to know last night that Uma was selected in the senior national cricket team. We are proud of our daughter. She is hardwiring and worked hard to shape her career as a cricketer. We want to see her play for India,” said Dipa Chetry, mother of Uma Chetry.

Uma Chetry become the first Assam’s cricket to select in the senior Indian cricket team. The Assam Cricket Association(ACA) wished her good luck and success in her life.
