Shillong, Aug 22 : In response to the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) weather warning issued on August 21, predicting heavy rainfall over the next seven days, Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited (MePGCL) has commenced the controlled release of water from the Umiam Stage I Reservoir.
The release began at 23:40 hours on Wednesday.
The initial water level in the reservoir was recorded at 3216.15 feet.
MePGCL is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to adjust the gate openings as necessary to ensure the safe and efficient management of the reservoir, minimizing potential downstream impacts.
