Unexploded mortar bomb found in Manipur village, sparks outrage

Imphal, July 29: In a shocking discovery, an unexploded 2-inch mortar bomb was discovered at Zalenphai village in Churachandpur district, on Friday morning.

Sources indicate that the bomb had been issued by the government and was reportedly fired on the tribal villages a day before its discovery.

Local villagers expressed outrage at the use of government-issued bombs against its own citizens, emphasizing that such actions endangered the lives of innocent civilians. The incident has further raised concerns about the safety and security of the tribal population in the region as the state has been in a ravaged state due to ethnic conflicts between the Meitei community and Kuki-Zo tribals for close to 3 months.

In addition to the potential harm posed to human lives, the shelling of bombs also resulted in property damage, resulting in several utensils were destroyed, and a bike tank lay twisted and battered.

Upon receiving information about the unexploded bomb, the district police promptly arrived at the scene. They carefully secured the bomb and have taken it away for proper disposal.
