Tura, Oct 26: A female body was found in the stream near Dobasipara Bus Stand, opposite Bazar India in Tura in West Garo Hills District on Thursday morning.
The police was informed around 8:30 and soon the police team arrived at the spot where the body was found.
From the site the police recovered the victim’s purse which contained money, mobile and house keys.
Sources said the victim left her house at 3 am in the morning, she was last seen by a local resident of the Dobasipara area with whom she had a short conversation.
According to the local with whom the victim had a conversation said that the victim had a walking cane with her, was slightly trembling and had asked for some food, by the time the person could bring her some food the victim was not there.
Later the victim was found by some other local resident at around 7-8 am in the stream below with her face buried in the water.
The body had a walking cane and a wrist watch in her hand.
The victim had a history of mental illness for a few years and she was scheduled to travel to Shillong tomorrow.
The victim is suspected to have fallen off the cliff down into the stream near the Dobasipara bus stand.
The victim has been identified as Phabina Ch. Momin. She was a govt employee as a matron and had retired last year.
Her age is suspected to be of 60/61 years old. She is the wife of Lt. Casper Iangrai.
Meanwhile, the body has been taken to Civil Hospital for postmortem and further evaluation.
The exact cause of death is yet to be known. Investigation is underway.
