Guwahati, April 21: Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday held a mega road show in Assam’s Silchar to garner support for state Cabinet Minister and BJP leader Parimal Suklabaidya.
Suklabaidya is set to contest Silchar seat and is replacing Dr Rajdeep Roy. Roy is an incumbent MP from Silchar.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was present along with Shah for the roadshow, a massive crowd was witnessed from various parts of Silchar to express their support for BJP.
Slogans of Modi-Shah Zindabad, ‘BJP Zindabad’, Bharat Mata ki Jai,’ ‘Jai Shri Ram’ were echoed during the roadshow.
Silchar is a traditional strong hold of BJP and and the BJP has been putting all their efforts to retain the seat.
Silchar Lok Sabha constituency will witness triangular contest between BJP leader Parimal Suklabaidya, TMC candidate Radheshyam Biswas and Congress candidate Surya Kanta Sarkar.
The upcoming second phase of the 2024 general elections, is scheduled for April 26, and will cover 89 Lok Sabha constituencies across 13 states, including Assam. In Assam’s second phase, five key constituencies – Karimganj, Silchar, Mangaldoi, Nowgong, and Kaliabor – are slated for polling, indicating the crucial nature of Shah’s rally in Silchar as part of the BJP’s election strategy.
