Tura, July 24: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma’s meeting with the protesting organisations, namely ACHIK and others, who are on a hunger strike and demanding winter capital in Tura and also on job reservation policy is currently underway.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Jagdish Chelani, IAS, is also present in the meeting.
ACHIK’s are campaigning on two issues – to make Tura the winter capital of Meghalaya and for a retrospective roster system.
The members and supporters of this demand have been on a hunger strike for 13 days now.
Tura as the winter capital is being demanded by the protesting organisations, including ACHIK, as they believe it will bring development and opportunities to the region.

A large crowd of supporters have also assembled at the venue.
CM Conrad Sangma reached Tura on Monday.
DC WGH meets protestors
This comes days after Jagdish Chelani, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills, met the A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK) hunger strike protestors outside Secretariat.
He had met them to find out on what kind of conversation they wanted to have with the Government and the Administration.
