Shillong, July 3: 38-year-old Pynsuklang Khongwir, who was bed ridden after undergoing a spinal surgery, died on the spot after a powerful blast at his residence at Smit village in East Khasi Hills District on Monday afternoon.
The incident took place at Lumkynsai at 12 noon.
The powerful blast also caused damage to some rooms of the house on the ground floor.
In the preliminary enquiry, it was revealed by the members of the family that the deceased person had undergone a spinal surgery 2 months back and was bedridden, district police chief Sylvester Nongtnger said in a statement.
According to him, the family members also mentioned that the deceased person had earlier attempted suicide twice.
The SP said during the examination of the blast spot, bits and pieces of power source for initiation of blast were identified. The Bomb Squad team and CSU team are verifying the cause of the explosion.
In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation is on, he added.
