Khanapara, Oct 2: In a collaborative effort to promote the spirit of voluntary blood donation and address the crucial need for a consistent blood supply, the Department of Zoology at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM), in partnership with the Dr. Bhubaneswar Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) Guwahati, and the National Service Scheme (NSS) cell at USTM, organized a successful blood donation camp on Monday on the occasion of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.
National Voluntary Blood Donation Day underscores the importance of maintaining a year-round commitment to voluntary blood donation. The objective is to ensure the availability of safe blood transfusions during emergencies and for individuals battling life-threatening illnesses.
The event, which was attended by an enthusiastic crowd comprising students, faculty, and administrative staff of USTM, began with the formal inauguration by senior medical staff from the blood center of BBCI. Dr. A. K. Sharma, Principal, and Dr. R. K. Sharma, Superintendent of the University Hospital of Ayurveda & Naturopathy (UHAN) at USTM, along with faculty members from the Department of Zoology, kicked off the blood donation camp.
Participants willingly registered as blood donors through voluntary nominations, demonstrating their commitment to saving lives through blood donation. The initiative garnered significant support from both students and staff at USTM, resulting in the collection of 10 units of blood. These donations will prove vital in treating patients with critical medical conditions.
The event’s resounding success was marked by the number of voluntary registrations from the audience, individuals who pledged to become future blood donors.
