Shillong, Jan 24: The vendors on Friday gathered at the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) office to protest against the plan to relocate them from Khyndai Lad to other areas.
Speaking to the media, Shane Thabah, Secretary of the Meghalaya Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association (MGSPHSVA), explained that the protest was in response to the government’s decision. He criticised the SMB office, which has been closed for two years, and highlighted the lack of progress in the Town Vendor Committee meetings.

Thabah further stated that the association had sent a letter on January 21, requesting the SMB to convene a meeting of the Town Vending Committee to discuss the issue of relocating vendors to two government-recognized areas.
He added that the vendors would continue their protest with placards in front of the SMB office until talks are held to resolve the matter through the Vending Town Committee.
