The militants initiated gunfire against the police near Ward 7, and the intense exchange lasted for over an hour.

The outbreak of violence occurred just two days after the arrest of two individuals suspected of killing a police officer in Moreh.

In response to the escalating situation, the Manipur government has enforced a complete curfew in the district, citing concerns about the “breach of peace, disturbance of public tranquility, and grave danger to human lives and property within the revenue jurisdiction of Tengnoupal.” The curfew exempts law enforcement agencies and essential services.
