The Khasi Students Union (KSU) observed the annual National Awakening Movement day on Thursday in a program at Mawlai Nongpdeng, Shillong. Every year, the KSU observes April 4 as the day to “awaken” the Khasi-Jaintia communities to fight for free, secure, clean, and peaceful co-existence between the sons of the soil, and more so, towards a sense of belonging and ownership of the land. However, this year, the State government denied permission for the KSU to organize the annual event due to the Model Code of Conduct of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections being in place.
