As Assam gears up for one of its grandest festivals, Bohag Bihu, the city streets are alive as people who have throng markets for Bohag Bihu shopping. Customers of all ages, from children to aged, are seen flocking the cloth stores, and food stalls alike. Several malls have mushroomed in the town within a short span of time, and they are also attracting crowds by setting out attractive discounts and offers on display. Shoppers were also seen shopping for ornaments like dhool, pepa, Gagana, mekhla sadar, gamusa etc. Assam celebrates many kinds of Bihu Kongali or Kati Bihu, Bhogali or Magh Bihu, but Bohag Bihu is the most popular of them all as it represents abundance and gaiety. It also marks the onset of spring as well as the New Year in Assam.
