What is Digi Yatra? Check out how it works

Must read

Shillong, Aug 21: The Digi Yatra Foundation and the Ministry of Civil Aviation developed the Digi Yatra app to support contactless passenger identification at airports. This helps the users travel and board aircraft more quickly.

This app was developed to make  air travel hassle-free, frictionless, and health-risk-free.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation’s Digi Yatra project aims to make air travel easier and more convenient. The Digi Yatra procedure employs a single token of facial biometrics to digitally confirm travel, identification, health, or other data required for air travel.

Digi Yatra App: How does it work?

The Digi Yatra app helps the traveller link their boarding pass to a facial recognition system (FRS), confirming their identification. This helps the traveller get to the boarding gates, and completing the pre-security check takes is less time.

Digi Yatra App: Know how to use it

The traveller needs to create a Digi Yatra ID first after installing the Digi Yatra App.

The traveller needs to submit information like name, mobile number, email address, and other details of their identity proof. Passengers may create a Digi Yatra ID.

If a traveller selects an Aadhaar-based verification, then their identification will be checked online. However, the airport security staff will manually do the verification when a traveller chooses another identity card.

The Digi Yatra ID must be provided after it is generated to buy air tickets. The Digi Yatra ID and the passenger’s information will then be sent to the departure at the airport. Also, a photo of the passenger will be posted to the Digi Yatra app after successful authentication in the central system.

What to do at the airport?

At the entrance (e-gate), the traveller will need to scan the barcode on the boarding pass or the e-ticket. Following the scanning of the barcode or QR code, the system will confirm the passenger and flight information.

Then the FRS will examine the passenger’s  identification and travel documents.

Only after the Digi Yatra ID and ticket have been verified, the e-gate will open.

A token will be generated.

Now, the traveller will be permitted to enter the airport’s security zone and the aircraft.
