WJH marks 14th National Voters Day, 49 newly enrolled voters in four assembly constituencies facilitated

Jowai, Jan 25: On the 14th National Voters Day, the Deputy Commissioner Election Branch, West Jaintia Hills District, organised a program on Thursday at the Election Branch compound in Jowai to present Voter ID Cards to newly enrolled voters.

A total of 49 newly enrolled voters from the four Assembly constituencies – Nartiang, Jowai, Raliang, and Mowkaiaw – were facilitated at different polling stations in the district during the event.

The celebration carried the theme, “Nothing like voting, I vote for Sure.”

Dignitaries present at the function included Deputy Commissioner B. S Sohliya, Additional Deputy Commissioner(ADC) B.Blah, ADC F.B Basan, ADC HML Kynta, ADC DV Lyngdoh, Assistant Commissioner S Phanbuh, and Assistant Commissioner WK Kharbuli.

Deputy Commissioner B.S Sohliya led the audience in taking the pledge. In his address, he urged all eligible voters, both young and old, to actively participate and exercise their right during the upcoming Lok Sabha Election. Emphasising the theme, “Nothing like voting, and I vote for sure,” he called for cooperation from village and locality headmen, stressing the need for collective responsibility to maintain free and fair elections.

Deputy Commissioner Sohliya also cautioned citizens against spreading fake news, encouraging them to verify information from accurate sources and seek information from the District Administration to prevent misunderstandings during the election period. He expressed gratitude to the district icon Chi Iung for creating voter awareness through various channels.

B. Blah, in her introductory speech, highlighted the importance of the day, emphasising the main objective of facilitating new voters and creating electoral awareness. She informed that National Voters Day was celebrated at all 230 polling stations in the four Assembly Constituencies, where Voter ID cards were distributed to newly enrolled voters from the special summary revision.

Apart from awareness programs in polling stations, Supervisors and BLO supervisors conducted awareness programs through a mobile demonstration van in all polling stations and major market areas in the district.

Blah encouraged all eligible voters to exercise their right, informing that the total number of voters in the four assembly constituencies is 1,66,728. She stressed the importance of participating in the upcoming Lok Sabha Election.

Prior to the main event, the Deputy Commissioner Election Branch conducted a drawing competition for PwD voters on the theme ‘Election and Voting’ in the DC office conference room. Additionally, a cycle rally in collaboration with the District Sports Officer was organized, starting from Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Ladthadlaboh, and flagged off by SP C. Syrti, MPS. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the drawing competition winners, and certificates of participation were given for the cycle rally. The District Election Officer also felicitated the BLOs during the program.

The event was chaired by WK Kharbuli, Assistant Commissioner, Jowai, and the vote of thanks was proposed by F.B Basan, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jowai.
