SHILLONG, MAR 18: West Khasi Hills district election officer Garod LSN Dykes on Monday appealed to people to report incidents of bribery during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, slated to be held on April 19.
In an appeal, Dykes said that in compliance with the direction of the Election Commission of India, it is hereby informed to the general public that any offer of cash, liquor, gift items or free food to the electors during the election process is bribery.
Both the persons, offering and accepting such bribe are liable for punishment with imprisonment up to one year and fine.
Flying squads and surveillance teams have been formed to keep watch over such activities during the election process.
“It is hereby appealed that any member of public may inform such incident to the Complaint Monitoring Cell, set up in the district over a toll free number 1950 and C-Vigil,” the DEO said.
