Guwahati, April 20: In a continued crackdown against drug trafficking, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police on Saturday seized heroin worth Rs 2.2 crore and arrested a woman drug peddler in Guwahati.
The accused has been identified as Sajida Begum (32), a resident of Sawkuchi near Guwahati. Acting on intelligence inputs, STF personnel conducted the operation and recovered 278.28 grams of heroin from her possession.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the STF team for their swift and effective action.

Saturday’s operation came just a day after a massive seizure of drugs worth Rs 71 crore in Assam’s Kamrup district. In two separate operations carried out on April 18 in the Amingaon area, STF personnel recovered heroin and highly addictive methamphetamine tablets, commonly known as Yaba.
An official said 2,70,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 67 crore were recovered from a truck, while 520 grams of heroin valued at Rs 4 crore were found hidden inside 40 soap boxes in a Hyundai car.

The drugs, smuggled from Myanmar, were being transported in two vehicles. The drivers — Nur Islam (34) and Nazrul Hussain alias Ali Hussain (22) — were arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
