Tura, Sep 27: On World Rabies Day, the Meghalaya Veterinary Services Association, in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, organised a 2-day free anti-rabies vaccination programme on Wednesday (September 27) and tomorrow (September 28) at the Tura Veterinary Hospital, Brahminpara.
The Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination Programme is sponsored by the National Rabies Control Programme under the National Health Mission, Government of Meghalaya, with the theme “All For 1, One Health For All”.
The drive started early in the morning on Wednesday and saw the active participation of 86 pet owners, mostly dogs, who came from all around the town for the free anti-rabies vaccination at the Tura Veterinary Hospital and Dispensary.

Along with the vaccination they were providing, there was also a free distribution of some pet food to the people who showed up. The timing of the drive was from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with tomorrow’s timings being the same.
Speaking to Hub News, Dr. Darryl S. Sangma, A. H., and Veterinary Officer, State Veterinary Hospital, Tura, said, “The World Rabies Day is actually celebrated on the 28th of September, but we have organised this free vaccination programme for 2 days, today and tomorrow, to spread awareness among the people about the disease.
“I would like to request that the citizens of Tura come and get their pets vaccinated against rabies since it is one of the most dreadful diseases that spreads to humans,” he said.
