Tura, Sep 28: World Rabies Day was organised at the conference hall of the District A.H. &Veterinary Office, Dakopgre in Tura.

The guests who attended the programme were Dr. A R Marak, DVO West Garo Hills; Dr. CD Sangma, Jt. Director, Garo Hills; Dr. Flora NT Sangma, Medical Health Officer; and Dr. A M Momin, DVO South West Garo students.

More than 20 Students along with teachers from various school participated in the programme.

During the programme, the Medical Health Officer, Dr. Flora NT , explained about the disease. She said that rabies is a dangerous, preventable disease.

She said that India is one of the countries with most cases of rabies.

Sangma said that rabies is 100 percent fatal, but now test kits are available in the district.

She also informed that there is no cure for rabies, and incubation after being bitten takes 1-3 months.

Low fever, malice, increased sensitivity to lights, loud noise issues, increased salivation, and itching are some of the clinical symptoms of rabies.

She said that symptoms after 2–3 days of hallucinations were aggression and hydrophobia.

It may result in death after 7–10 days without treatment.

What Prevention to Take:
Vaccinate dogs, cats, and stray dogs.

After a bite, one must immediately:
1. Wash wounds with running water.
2. Go to the hospital.
3. Vaccinate immediately as per instructions and competitions dose.

The competitions ended with quiz competitions among the students.
