Shillong, June 18: In a shocking incident that occurred at the Umkaliar Bridge, in between the areas of Nongmensong and Demseiniong, in the early hours of the morning on Sunday (June 18), Alfred Marbaniang was brutally attacked by a group of 8-9 individuals while he stopped to purchase a packet of cigarettes.
The assault resulted in severe injuries to 27-year-old Alfred, including a broken rib and a deep laceration on his ear, which required four stitches. Alfred Marbaniang is currently in an unstable condition and has been hospitalised for his injuries.
The Marbaniang family has filed an (FIR) with the authorities, highlighting the details of the incident. However, despite ongoing interrogation, no significant action has been taken to hold the perpetrators accountable for their heinous crime. The involvement of a 16-year-old individual in this act of violence further adds to the gravity of the situation.
Expressing their anguish and concern, Andries Marbaniang, the victim’s brother, emphasised the urgent need for justice. He questioned the state’s ability to safeguard its citizens in the face of such crimes, stating, “If this kind of crime happens in the state, what will we do?” The family is deeply distressed by the impact this incident has had on Alfred’s physical and mental well-being, emphasising the urgent need for justice and support.
