Dibrugarh, Dec 24: Three youths on the way to join the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-I) were injured in a police firing at Dirak Gate in the Assam-Arunachal border on Sunday morning.
The injured youths have been identified as Manoj, Deepjyoti, and Biswanath of Sadiya, Chaphakhowa area of Tinsukia.
They were rushed to the hospital for further treatment. All three of them sustained bullet injuries to their legs.
“They are going to join ULFA-I. Security forces got information and fired them. All three of them sustained bullet injuries to their legs. The incident took place in the Dirak area of the Assam-Arunachal border,” said a police source.
This incident comes amid verbal clashes between the militant outfit and Assam DGP GP Singh.
Earlier this week, the ULFA-I had clarified that the individuals who have been apprehended across the state as suspected linkmen of the militant outfit are in no way connected or involved with the organisation.
“Most of the youths are frustrated and misguided, and some overground workers (OGW) of ULFA-I are brainwashing them to join the insurgent group. ULFA-I has now started their recruitment process in the upper Assam area, targeting the unemployed youths in their organisation,” said a source.
