Mendipathar, Jan 16: The 120 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), under the NES Sector, organised a tailoring training programme and distributed sewing machines to widows and economically disadvantaged women in Mendipathar, North Garo Hills, as part of its Civic Action Programme 2025–26.

Held under the theme “Empowering Women, Stitching Relationships,” the initiative aimed at promoting skill development, self-reliance and economic empowerment among women from rural Garo Hills, while strengthening community ties with the security forces.

Superintendent of Police, North Garo Hills, Pawar Swapnil Vasantrao attended the programme as the chief guest. Other officials present included Manish Raman, Second-in-Command; Paojalal Lhungdim, Deputy Commandant and Officer Commanding, D/120 Battalion CRPF; A. Ali Sheikh, SHO of Mendipathar Police Station; along with women beneficiaries from Babupara village and local community members.

Addressing the gathering, the Superintendent of Police highlighted the role of the CRPF as one of the country’s largest paramilitary forces, stating that apart from maintaining peace and security, especially in Meghalaya, the Force also plays a vital role in community development. He stressed that sustainable peace in regions like Garo Hills is only possible with active public participation and mutual trust.

He added that the tailoring training and distribution of sewing machines were aimed at improving the economic condition of underprivileged women by creating sustainable livelihood opportunities. Equipping women with practical skills, he said, would enable them to support their families and move towards financial independence.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the CRPF for recognising their needs and providing tangible support that could help them earn a steady income. Many said the initiative would play a crucial role in improving their livelihoods.

The 120 Battalion CRPF reiterated its commitment to continuing people-centric initiatives in Garo Hills, focusing on empowerment, social harmony and stronger bonds between security forces and local communities.
