Shillong, July 12: Areas where as many as 13 institutions are located in Shillong have been declared as no honking zones.
Informing this on Wednesday, Tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh said, “I am happy that with the cooperation of the transport department, we have been succeeded in notifying certain areas as no honking zones which will include major hospitals, high court, Raj Bhavan, CM’s Bungalow, the main secretariat and additional secretariat. Altogether, a list of 13 institutions has been declared as no honking zones.”
He also informed that the process is on to pedestrianize the Khyndailad area.
“I had conducted an inspection to Khyndailad for the pedestrianisation from the entry point of Khyndailad up to the exit point which is Umsohsun and as you go down and Jailroad as you go to the right. The process is on. Now we are working in tandem with the SMB and spots have been identified for relocation of street vendors but this might take about couple of months more,” Lyngdoh said while adding that once this is finalised the department will then be in a position to declare and give effect to pedestrianised Khyndailad.
