Baghmara, Aug 30: The two-day training program for Para Legal Volunteers got underway at DRDA Training Hall Baghmara on Tuesday.
The District Legal Services Authority, Baghmara under the Aiges of NALSA is organising the two-day event in order to educate and provide the much needed counsel and guidance to the newly joined Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) of South Garo Hills District.
During the training, Chief Judicial Magistrate Daniel S Marbaniang spoke on the benefits of joining as Para Legal Volunteers. Marbaniang categorically stated that Para Legal Volunteers should not mistake themselves as the people in authority like police or other government officials but they are valuable partners for the police and the government officials and a valuable friend to the community they serve.
Further, he stated that a good Para Legal Volunteer must be confident and honest, so that the community he or she serves will trust him or her. He or she should never be over bearing or aggressive, emotional, tyrannical or quarrelsome even under severe provocation, he said. “Para Legal Volunteers are volunteers whose service are truly defined with commitment,” he exhorted.
Others who spoke included Judicial Magistrate 1st class R. Dachi K Sangma who dwelt at length on Family Laws, Marriage Laws, Judicial Separation and Divorce, Juvenile Justice Board etc. Alme Sanches D Shira, Assistant Public Prosecutor, spoke on General Laws and explained about the Do’s and Don’ts on PLV’s. Nickanur M Sangma, another Legal Aid Counsel, spoke on various Fundamental Rights.
Interactive sessions were also held where doubts were cleared and explained by the members present.
On the first day of the training program, altogether 20 volunteers came and enrolled themselves as Para Legal Volunteers from the entire District. More PLVs are expected on the second day of the training.
