2 killed, 4 injured due to brake failure in fatal accident in East Garo Hills

Tura, Aug 24: In a tragic accident, two people were killed on Thursday afternoon and 4 others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident near Rongjeng in East Garo Hills. The reason for the accident is said to be brake failure.

The deceased and the injured were travelling in a Tata Sumo bearing registration No. ML-06-4196, which was travelling from Mangsang side towards Rongjeng, when its brake failed to engage, resulting in the devastating accident near Dambo Bima in which two persons died on the spot and the other four received injuries. They were immediately taken to Rongjeng CHC.

One deceased person has been identified as Wansolang Rynniaw (28 years) of Nongjri village, West Khasi Hills and the other deceased person has been identified as Suchindro R Sangma (71 years) of Umden village in Ri-Bhoi. Their bodies have been kept in Williamnagar C.H. morgue for post mortem examination.

The injured persons are: Victor Diengngan (45 years), Driver of the vehicle and a resident of Nongjri village; Helson Sangma (70 years) of Mawjir; Phrangben Myrthong (33 years) of Ribhoi Mymphong; and Nomistone Rynmaw.

During preliminary enquiry and examination of the injured person, the police learnt that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure. In order to avoid falling to the gorge, the vehicle was dashed on the right side of the road.
